"Lucy White’s uniquely fashioned Band-Aid paintings deftly tackle the iconography in everyday objects – in part, by using everyday objects to create them. They are poignant and provocative, yet often so distilled that they appear deceptively simple. In her work, common objects such as cell phones and panties become iconic, and traditionally iconic images (flags, churches, peace symbols) are juxtaposed with an underlying Band-Aid treatment. Even guns, integral objects to the history of America, are interwoven and cross-pollinated to conjure images of sexuality, violence and humor."
